Discover Switzerland, Austria & Bavaria including Oktoberfest 2026

Local cuisine. Traditional costumes. Amusement rides. Live music. Travelers from all over the world. Millions of beer liters. Find all of this and more at Munich’s Oktoberfest – a folk festival from the 1800s that has inspired countless renditions worldwide. The celebration lasts for 3 weeks, starting in the middle of September and ending on the first Sunday of October. Beer tents line the festival, each containing the capacity for thousands of visitors. Only beer brewed in Munich can be served at the festival, and it must meet strict criteria outlined in the Reinheitsgebot. The Bavarian gathering was originally established to celebrate the marriage of King Ludwig I and Princess Therese but has evolved over time to include the celebration of local agriculture as well.
